Epoch Estate Wines is owned by vintners Bill and Liz Armstrong, who acquired the historic York Mountain Winery property in 2010 and carefully restored the landmark following its closure and earthquake damage. Epoch produces limited, site-driven Rhône, Tempranillo and Bordeaux-inspired wines from three estate vineyards, including its cool-climate York Mountain Vineyard. Its appointment-based tasting room occupies the beautifully reconstructed 1882 York Mountain Winery, the first bonded winery on California’s Central Coast. Visit Epoch Estate Wines

rocky creek

Rocky Creek Cellars is a small, multigenerational family winery founded by John Somogyi and now led in the cellar by his son Dusty. The family produces approximately 1,000 cases annually, concentrating on traditionally made, single-varietal red wines that receive unusually long barrel aging before release. Guests can enjoy an informal tasting in the family-built rustic tasting room, where one of the owners is frequently present to pour the wines. Visit Rocky Creek Cellars

lago giucepp

Lago Giuseppe Winery is a family-owned boutique estate situated beside a small lake among the wooded hills of York Mountain. Drawing inspiration from the family’s Italian heritage, the winery produces small batches of Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Zinfandel alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah and other varieties. Its peaceful tasting room and bistro offer wine, food and attractive views of the lake, vineyard and surrounding oak trees. Visit Lago Giuseppe Winery

royal nonesuch

The Royal Nonesuch Farm is a tiny, multigenerational family estate dedicated to expressing its remote seven-acre vineyard high on York Mountain. The Yount family farms without herbicides, chemical fertilizers or pesticides and produces just one red wine—a field-inspired blend of everything grown on the property, including Grenache, Syrah, Graciano and small amounts of white Rhône varieties. Annual production can be fewer than 500 cases, allowing the vineyard’s cool mountain climate and rugged character to remain at the center of the wine. Guests can experience Royal Nonesuch through intimate, reservation-based communal tastings at its winery on Live Oak Road in Paso Robles, where the wines and the family’s minimalist approach are presented around a single redwood table.
